Anonymous asked: just curious as to what bc you were on prior to becoming pregnant? I am looking at a few options, just hearing peoples thoughts. would you go back to it? also, how long until you go back on bc now after having a baby?
Hi, I was actually off birth control for a year exactly before I became pregnant. Prior to that I was on the low dose progesterone-only pill (low dose due to migraines) which was fine, I didn’t have any side effects or anything really. Before that (2011) I was on the Depo shot and personally, I didn’t like it. While some people find it convenient to not have to take a pill everyday, I would rather do that than have to make a trip to the doctor’s office every 3 months to get the shot. I don’t have any issues remembering to take a pill at a certain time of day. I also didn’t like that it made my period stop; it seemed unnatural and unhealthy, in my opinion. I actually switched to the pill to get my period back, and my cycle was all over the place (I blame the Depo shot). It was so irregular that I ultimately stopped taking bc all together in attempt to regulate my cycle and to try for a baby.
That being said, I’ll be getting back on the low-dose bc pill starting at 6 weeks postpartum, which will be the end of March. And yes, it’s safe to take while breastfeeding!
